US intelligence officials have disclosed details of a plan for its mission Edward Snowden back to the United States to stand trial.
According to a senior intelligence official, the move is a "gift" in a bid to win the favor of President Trump, who during his election campaign called Snowden a "spy" and "traitor" who deserves to be executed.
For Snowden, the version will signalsaid he would face charges of crimes under the Espionage Act that could carry a sentence of at least 30 years to life in prison.
Snowden's lawyer, Ben Wizner, he told NBC News that the customer has no information about such plans. "THE team Snowden has received no such information and has no concerns," Wizner announced.
As for Snowden himself, he took the opportunity to point out that the planned version offers "irrefutable proof" that he is not cooperating with Russian secret services.
It remains unknown how far such a plan is from the truth or whether Russia is "committed" to Snowden's extradition. At the moment, Russian spokesman Dmitry Peshkov says the report is "nonsense."
