Restart Windows Update if it gets stuck

It's no secret that Windows often fails to install the updates released by Microsoft. In most cases the problem comes from Windows Update. Many times a restart of the service can solve the problem, and continue the process of installing the updates.

Windows Update

Below we will see two different ones . To run them you will need to open Command Prompt or PowerShell with administrator rights. (In the search, type cmd or powershell and when the icon you are interested in appears, right click on it and "open as administrator")

First of all, we will stop the Windows Update service: copy and paste the following command:

net stop wuauerv

If you restart your computer, Windows Update will start automatically. Otherwise, you can use the following command to start the service:

net start wuauserv

The above commands are only for restarting the Windows Update service, and not for resetting, as a reset is a much more complex process that includes many other commands.

We know that many times a simple restart of the Windows Update service helps in many cases to proceed with Windows 10 updates, which are stuck during of the download process. The above solution does not work in 100 percent of cases.
In fact, it's proven that sometimes it does not work when they try to install cumulative updates, and in that case the only thing we can do is wait for Microsoft to provide a solution.
