Rocky Linux, a new Linux distribution built from the source code of Red Hat Enterprise Linux, is the distribution that all the frustrated CentOS users wanted , as its development as an LTS was abruptly ended in December 2020.
The project is led by CentOS founder Gregory Kurtzer, and has announced the first release candidate for the upcoming 8.3 version:

This release is the culmination of months of hard work from every corner of the community. It started in a comment thread on a Red Hat blog in December 2020 and became a community of over ten thousand members on a Slack channel in a matter of days.
