The Turkish police seized an iPhone that was used by the terrorist who killed the Russian ambassador in Turkey, Andrei Karlov and apparently trying to break the 4 code that protects it.
MacReports reports that the device it was an iPhone 4s with an unknown version of iOS. Turkish investigators are trying to crack open the device to gain access to stored information for any evidence of terrorist activity inside the country.
Breaking iPhone protection has proven to be particularly difficult as the FBI itself tried last year to unsuccessfully break the device used by one of San Bernardino's terrorists. If you remember the FBI had then asked Apple to help since it could not unlock the device, but Cupertino refused to open the iPhone.
This time, it is not yet clear whether Turkey contacts Apple to help with the research, but even if it comes, Cupertino will probably refuse any help.

What is important to note is that iPhome 4S is much easier to tamper with as it does not use the advanced encryption systems available on the latest iPhones. It is likely that an old iOS version will run, and security experts could export the stored data.
