RustDesk : The TeamViewer alternative

RustDesk is a free, open source program that allows you to remotely access your computer, just like TeamViewer and Anydesk.

As Teamviewer becomes more demanding and limits free personal usage, but Anydesk has also started to collect its excessive and uncontrolled usage, RustDesk is coming as an open source program to fill the gap.

And when we say program we mean that it is not only a service that takes care through its servers to connect two computers, but it gives you the unique possibility set up a remote management server on your computer and define the movement and rights yourself.

That is, it allows you to view and control remote devices from another device that plays the role of server as well as client, without the RustDesk servers or anyone else intervening, thus increasing your security.

It works on all major platforms: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android and iOS, and on iPhone/iPad only as a server to control other devices.

It is quite simple to use, as far as the client is concerned with or without the RustDesk subscription. Enter the ID of the device you want to connect to, then wait for your partner to allow you (they can set your access level from basic screen sharing to full control) or enter the required password.

This can be a one-time password for remote support purposes or a permanent password for remote access to unattended devices.

Once connected, it's like you're in front of said device, you can resize the screen to fit, send text messages to your partner, and even transfer files between devices. Basically, if you can do it in TeamViewer and Anydesk, you can do it in RustDesk.

RustDesk's relatively bare-bones server infrastructure means the company can run you through sluggish connections. You probably have a lot of disconnections.

But as we mentioned above, those of you who are power users can install your own self-hosted server on your machine to facilitate connections (with the added benefit of providing extra security and privacy).

Can you do Download RustDesk as a client now on all your devices, including Windows (32 kai 64 bit), Linux , macOS , Android and iOS. The application is completely free to use as clients, but also as a server.

There are also paid editions for those who need more features ONLY for their self-hosted installation, including tools and the ability to use relay servers.

The client program is portable but can be fully installed if desired. The program speaks Greek.
