Not all Windows applications have the same volume by default. Or you don't want all apps to be the same volume and prefer some to sound lower than others.

Some of them give you the possibility to set the audio db, like all media player programs, and some others don't, like browsers.

For those applications where you don't have the local ability to adjust the volume, the only solution is to set the global Windows volume so that all sounds from all programs are affected without exception.

For example, let's say you're playing a game with friends and using Discord to exchange messages and information. You can easily turn down the game volume to hear everyone more clearly.

Another example would be if you are working while listening to music and notification sounds from WhatsApp or another messaging app keep bothering you.

Both Windows 10 and Windows 11 allow you to preset the volume for each application individually. This will help you control how powerful a single application can be without affecting the others.

Set app and device sounds
Step 1 : Open Settings (Win + i) and go to System > Sound (for Windows 10)

Step 2 : Scroll down and click on “Advanced Audio Options”

For each application you can set the volume, output device and input device (microphone).

Attention: You will not see all your applications except those that you have open at that moment and that have a sound source. Each application's setting will only affect how loud it will be on that output device. Unfortunately, you cannot increase the volume of an app above 100%.
