Samsung SSD P9 and P7 with USB4 connectivity

Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. today unveiled its next-generation P9 and P7 SSDs, which feature USB4 connectivity. The company showcased the new P Series at Gamescom 2026, the world’s largest video game trade show taking place in Cologne, Germany from August 26 to 30.

Specifically designed to meet the rapidly increasing storage demands of ultra-high-definition video creation, AI content, and large-scale gaming, the P Series devices include the flagship P9, which offers top-notch performance for professional users, and the P7 model, designed for fast and easy-to-use everyday storage.

“AI-powered content creation and ultra-high-definition video have made large amounts of data a part of our daily lives, so it makes sense that users are demanding faster and more reliable storage experiences,” said Tommy, Vice President of the Branded Memory Product Business Group at Samsung Electronics. “The P Series offers fast storage and backup for your files and is designed to meet the needs of professionals and everyday users with the performance they need to work efficiently across a wide range of applications.”

P9: Up to twice the performance with USB4

With the power of USB4 connectivity, the top-of-the-line P9 model features sequential read speeds of up to 4.000 MB/s and write speeds of up to 3.800 MB/s, delivering the industry’s best data transfer performance. Sequential read and write speeds are approximately double those of the previous generation. In comparison, the 4 terabyte (TB) T9 model with USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 interface offers sequential read and write speeds of up to 2.000 MB/s.

The P9 is also the world's first portable SSD with 8TB capacity and USB4 that supports speeds of up to 4.000MB/s. For its outstanding achievements in ingenuity and technical excellence, the P9 was honored with the Innovation Award at CES 2026 earlier this year.

With powerful continuous recording performance, the P9 supports 12K resolution direct video recording for professional production workflows, allowing creators to capture, store and edit large RAW image files and ultra-high resolution video.

P7: Fast, flexible storage for everyday use

Also equipped with USB4 technology, the P7 is designed to provide fast and easy-to-use storage for work, entertainment and other everyday uses. It offers broad compatibility with many different devices, including desktops and laptops, smartphones, game consoles and cameras.

The P7 has successfully passed 2-meter drop tests, as well as shock and vibration resistance tests, allowing users to store their important data safely during travel, outdoor activities, and other high-mobility conditions.

Availability

The Samsung P series portable SSDs will be available in 1TB, 2TB, 4TB and 8TB capacities and will be gradually released worldwide starting August 31.

The P9 will have a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $339,99 for the 1TB model, $649,99 for the 2TB model, $1.349,99 for the 4TB model, and $2.699,99 for the 8TB model. The P7 will have a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $289,99 for the 1TB model, $549,99 for the 2TB model, $1.149,99 for the 4TB model, and $2.289,99 for the 8TB model.
