No, this is not sexist news, we just did not expect it. Sony reported that the female holders consoles Playstations have grown dramatically since the days of the PS1, greatly expanding the audience for Sony games.
In a presentation to its investors, the Japanese giant noted that about 41% of PlayStation 5 and PS4 owners are women. Compare that to just 18 percent on the PS1, and you'll notice a clear demographic increase for female consoles.
On the other hand, this increase highlights the importance of rich, varied content in the gaming industry. PlayStation Studios has done great work diversification in recent years, presenting strong female leads, such as Aloy on Horizon Zero Dawn and the chloe frazer in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy.
On the other hand it is great to see that more and more people to play digital games, as more users means more investment, and ultimately, better games and services for all of us. Sony notes that the expansion of demographics data regarding the age, gender and geography, all present growth opportunities for the company.
