Jake Moore, Cyber Consultantbetter safetyESET's website states:
"Apple's announcement to phase out passwords follows the line of similar statements by other tech giants like Google or services like PayPal. Statistics show that around 80% of all successful company breaches are based on stolen, reused and very weak passwords.
The most successful spam campaigns worldwide are fake iCloud emails, where users would click on links to 'confirm their data' or 'check for potential security risks' and enter their login information on fake websites."
“Nearly 60 years after their introduction to the IT world, it's time to put on application modern methods control identity. The biggest advantage for both users and administrators is that this technology is already available on the user's smartphone.”
“However, we should not get too excited about the idea that from tomorrow we will have a world without passwords. It may take another decade for the vast majority of services and users to adapt, and in some cases, such as in production environments or legacy systems, it may not even be possible to replace password-based logins.”
