Have you ever heard of it? Sectera Edge? Probably not. It goes without saying that world leaders must be using super secure phones. So when she was appointed secretary of state, Hillary Clinton aimed to get a BlackBerry similar to the one used by US President Barack Obama.
However, the new information revealed by Wired shows that the NSA did not agree with Clinton's request due to the high cost of BlackBerry in the Obama version.
For such a device the cost is really incredible. Its price starts at 4.750 dollars, plus an extra $ 30.000 for security systems and the necessary infrastructure, as reported by the publication. So at such a cost the purchase of this device remained a dream for Hillary Clinton.
This, of course, does not mean that it was left without a device that provides security.
It turns out that the NSA has a device that has so far been highly secretive. It is a Windows Phone device that runs on Windows CE.
The so-called Sectera Edge costs about $3.000 in its basic version and has been officially released since mid-2008. It was produced under an $18 million contract for the US National Security Agency and is used by its employees governments in various government agencies, such as the Ministry Defenseand Internal Security.
The Sectera Edge weighs 340 grams. It has a 2,8 inch QVGA TFT color display with 64k colors, and supports a microSD card up to 2 GB.
Sectera Edge was stopped by 2015 as state officials are using more modern smartphones with cryptography and security systems. Undersecretary John Kerry for example uses a Samsung Galaxy S4.
