Η Kaspersky Lab is participating in the new non-profit global initiative Securing Smart Cities, which is supported by leading researchers, Companies and organizations in the IT sector, among which the IOActive, Bastille and Cloud Security Alliance.
The initiative securing Smart Cities αποσκοπεί στην επίλυση των προκλήσεων της ψηφιακής ασφάλειας που αντιμετωπίζουν οι «έξυπνες πόλεις» μέσα από τη συνεργασία και την ανταλλαγή πληροφοριών.
Η team will act as a communication hub for businesses, government agencies, mass media, non-profit initiatives and individuals involved in creation, improving and promoting "smart" and safe technologies for modern cities.
The concept of "smart city" is very timely and many organizations work on "smart" solutions to make urban areas more energy efficient, comfortable, environmentally friendly and of course safe.
Unfortunately, fewer people are looking at the digital security of these "smart cities".
The more IT organizations involved in creating a "smart city," the greater the potential risk. If the security issue is not tackled early, the cost and complexity of a "smart city" could make it difficult to tackle the problems.
And in the end, the city will remain exposed.
The Securing Smart Cities initiative seeks to prevent this result by using a range of activities such as:
- Training of urban center operators and suppliers on the importance and economic benefits of best safety practices.
- Collaboration and exchange of ideas and methodologies.
- Supporting the importance and benefits of introducing security early in the development of the life cycle of a project or project.
- Promoting cooperation between cities, suppliers and the security community.
- Create standards, guidelines and resource development that will help improve digital security in all areas related to "smart cities".
Participants in the Securing Smart Cities initiative believe that they can contribute effectively and responsibly to the exchange of knowledge on the digital security of modern cities.
The initiative will bring together suppliers of infrastructure automation equipment with security researchers ready to validate the safe operation of these products. It will also contact urban law enforcement agencies with the security community to solve collectively new digital security problems.
"The digital security of a modern, 'smart' city is not something you can make it solve on its own. A "smart city" involves so many different technologies that communicate with each other in so many ways that the only way to anticipate and eliminate all possible issues security is through the cooperation of experts worldwide. For this reason we also launched the Securing Smart Cities initiative", said Cesar Cerrudo, CTO of IOActive and member of the Board of Directors of the Securing Smart Cities initiative.
"Smart cities" present a tremendous opportunity for growth, sustainability and social progress. However, the plans are not just enough to be "smart", it should also be safe.
The activation of embedded technologies and the exploitation of the Internet of Things in a city's infrastructure bring to light risks that need to be taken into account and controlled to maintain the safety of citizens. We want to work with urban centers to raise awareness about digital threats and to exchange information on how to mitigate these threats before citizens are affected, "said Chris Rouland, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Bastille and member of the Securing Smart Cities Board of Directors.
"Securing Smart Cities aims to solve digital problems at every stage of developing a" smart city ": from design to the actual implementation of" smart "technologies. We encourage urban authorities, equipment and software vendors, and security researchers to take part in the debate, "said Patrick Nielsen, Kaspersky Lab's Principal Security Researcher and Securing Smart Cities' board of directors.
