Seven alternatives of Google Maps that you have not heard

Google maps is Earth's most popular mapping system, but it's not always perfect. There are other online maps that deserve to take a look at.

If you are looking for different functions from Google Maps, more accurate data, or you live in a country where Google is blocked or you do not want to participate in Google data collection algorithms, these seven alternatives can give you new horizons.

For which service map and route planning is right at any time, it depends on how you want to use the maps, where you want to go and how you want to get there. These alternative map services in addition to having all the basics, also have some useful special features that differentiate them from the generality.

Some of these maps are more accurate, offer different details, or have some other aspect that makes them viable alternatives to Maps of Google. Let's see them:

MapQuest (Web, Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Amazon).
MapQuest is about the same as Google Maps and works more or less the same when it comes to locating and finding directions. It will identify your current location based on your IP address (if you use the web) or your phone GPS (if you are using a mobile phone).

Route directions are very accurate and include current traffic levels, distance and even estimated fuel costs for driving. Provides zoom controls, satellite or traffic views, and share or print buttons. It can show you local area hotels, gas stations, grocery stores, cafes, shopping malls and grocery stores.

Waze (Web, Android, iOS).
If you visit the Waze website, you will think that there is no map and that it only works for mobile phones. Until you click the Live Map link in the menu. Live Map lets you quickly search for destinations and plan routes, click map locations, and use Waze Map Editor to customize your map of any area.

In relation to Google the Bing maps are extremely detailed with many levels available. The user interface is modern and easy to use and you can easily save places in your personal library.

Here WeGo (Web, Android, iOS)
It is simple to use. The website and mobile app are ideal for minimalists who do not want to be distracted by their navigation. With the application, just set your destination and go. The mobile application requires you to be connected to the internet.

In general, you can plan a route faster and start navigating, it has a large and easy to follow, screen in the mobile version and contains fewer distractions in the navigation mode.

Rand McNally (Web)
Rand McNally maps are extremely detailed. You will see from the smallest lakes to even the smallest hiking trails.
Unfortunately, searching for a route and generally finding a route is limited to the Americas

for what it supports has a more detailed map than any other mapping service, impressive and useful satellite view, fast and easy to use zoom, and save your locations

MAPS.ME (Android, iOS)
The Maps.me is a mobile service only. However, it is one of the few mapping applications that allows you to navigate anywhere without having to be online. Also, it does not use much storage. You can download general maps of the entire United States of America for just 21 MB of your phone storage.

Maps include details such as traffic levels, businesses and attractions, free travel guides to your destinations, and cloud storage.

OpenStreetMap (Web) and OsmAnd (Android, iOS, Amazon)
This service has two branches. The first is the OpenStreetMap web mapping tool and the other is the OsmAnd application that pulls data from the OpenStreetMap site database.

OsmAnd is an offline mapping application. THE OpenStreetMap website is simple, but has more features than many other simple internet mapping services. You will find different levels available (cycling, transport, humanitarian) very accurate route planning and a detailed map of your route. It has many details. You will see icons for business types, hiking trails and even river flow direction. Great for exploring areas, but not so good for real-time navigation.

Alternatively
There are some mapping services that are specialized and not good alternatives to Google Maps. Check out these mobile-only services:

Citymapper (Web, Android, iOS) Citymapper focuses on one thing. How to get to cities using public transport whether it is buses, trains, subways, ferries, cycling or walking. It currently refers to 39 different cities, and none of them belong to Greece.

BackCountry Navigator (Android, Windows Mobile) BackCountry Navigator lets you use topographic maps that are useful if you want to go camping, hiking, hunting, kayaking, fishing and other outdoor activities. For the map of Greece does not require you to pay.

Navmii (Android, iOS) The Navmii is built with drivers in mind. Provides voice guidance, traffic and road data for 150 countries. If you live in the US there is an Android US version.
