The man who exposed the actions of the National Security Service, Edward Snowden appeared today via Google Hangout at the South by Southwest Interactive Festival in Austin, Texas and stated that he has no regrets about what he did and that if he could do it all over again, he would.
The former government contractor whose leakage of thousands of classified government documents has sparked a global debate over internet privacy, appeared on a screen showing Article 1 of the Constitution of USA.
Speaking to ACLU's Christopher Soghoian, Snowden said:
"I took an oath to uphold and defend the US Constitution, and I saw that it had been violated on a massive scale," he said, adding that he did not regret what he had done.
Snowden also talked about the importance that software will play encryptions to protect private communications, and spoke about the need for technicians at leading technology companies to lead this effort.
"I think we have made really great progress," he said from an unknown location in Russia. To speak at the conference, he used seven proxies to prevent him from being spotted by the US government.
