Slackel is a Linux distribution based on Slackware and Salix. It is fully compatible with Slackware and Salix, except that it includes the current one version of Slackware.
So Slackware users can benefit from Slackel repositories. It is available in three versions, KDE, Openbox and Fluxbox. Slackel disk images are offered in two different formats, the disk image installationand live disk image.
Linux is developed in Greece by Dimitris Dzemos. His latest version is 6.0.6 Openbox.
There are four iso images. Two for installation and two Live ISO (64 and 32 bit)
64-bit ISO supports boot-up on UEFI systems, while 32-bits support i686 PAE SMP as well as i486, incompatible-PAE systems.
The new distribution includes Linux kernel 4.4.11 and the latest updates from 'Current' Slackware. (14.2)
It brings many improvements starting with Slackel-live-installer.
The Slackel 6.0.6 Openbox includes the Midori 0.5.11 as a web browser, and Claws-Mail 3.9.2, SMPlayer 16.4.0, Transmission 2.84, PCManFm 1.2.1, Pidgin 2.10.12, Gftp 2.0.19, Wicd, Openjre 8u91_b14.
Abiword 3.0.1 is one application office and comes bundled with Gnumeric-1.12.9, while Smplayer is the default movie player.
In the slackel repositories you can of course find that applications you want:
Libreoffice 5.1.3, Openjdk, kplayer 0.7.2, kaffeine 1.3.1, k3b, mplayer, vlc 2.2.2, gnome-mplayer 1.0.8 , radio tray, mixx, gmpc 11.8.16, mpd 0.19.9, icecast 2.3.2, ices-mp3 0.4, ices-ogg, murmur 1.2.15, mumble 1.2.15, audacity, audacious, kdenlive, wxcam, games as (supertux4, supertux2, frozen bubble, extreme tux racer) educational software such as gcompris, tuxtype, tuxpaint and many more. Installing them is easy via Gslapt.
In the graphics section there are ViewNiX 1.3, GIMP 2.8.16, mtPaint 3.40, and Scrot as snapshot utility.
