A year after revealing its plans to build Firefox OS smart TVs with Panasonic, Mozilla has announced that the devices are available in Europe.
Currently only available in Europe, there are six Panasonic Viera smart TV models powered by the operating system by Mozilla (CR850, CR730, CX800, CX750, CX700 and CX680}.
Prices vary, of course, but for example the CX700 is available in the UK for $ 1.600. Televisions are expected to be available everywhere "within the next few months."
The Firefox OS 2012 was introduced and originally designed as an alternative smartphone and tablet operating system.
While Firefox OS faces intense competition in the mobile space, with devices from Apple and Google to dominate, the space of the intelligent TVs perhaps offers an easier route to market.
Consumers may have fewer preconceptions about TV operating systems than mobile phones or tablets, so the Mozilla Foundation seems to stick to this logic.
To see how it will go.
