Smartphones with fast charging? Researchers from Drexel University's College of Engineering are reportedly experimenting with a special material that will one day provide the ability to direct of the battery. This can be made possible thanks to the superconducting 2D material MXene.

Dr. Yuri Gogotsi, who leads it q, says:

We show the charge of thin MXene electrodes in tens of milliseconds. This is achieved by the very high electrical conductivity of MXene. This opens the way for the development of high-speed energy storage devices. They can be charged in a matter of seconds, but they store much more energy than conventional super capacitors.

MXene is not new material, but the ongoing research with the graffiti-like substance begins to close the gap between concept and reality. Technology will not be commercially available for a few years, according to Futurism.

Smartphones that will be able to charge in the near future are just one part of a bigger picture.

Forget about inductive charging or fast charging, direct charging will reach mobile phones around 2020.
