Shalos prevailed today after the release of tens of thousands of naked photos, its users Snapchat at 4chan. The leaks started last night in an event called "Snappening" and referred to the well-known leak of nude celebrity photos.
Snapchat says it did not violate its systems.
“We can confirm that Snapchat's servers were never compromised and were not the source of these leaks. Snapchatters have been victimized by using third-party apps to send and receive Snaps, a practice we expressly prohibit in our Terms of Service precisely because it endangers better safety of our users. We are vigilantly monitoring the App Store, and Google Play for illegal third-party apps and have managed to remove quite a few.”
As he says Business Insider, the leak was caused by users using third-party apps to send and receive photos. But there are some that allow users to save their photos without the senders knowing. An app called SnapSave (which is not available through the official app stores) and a by clicking here called snapsaved.com (which is no longer operational) were two of these “third-party apps.”
Another reminder of how far the battle to protect it has to go online of our privacy, especially when using insecure third-party apps.
