Paweł Pijanowski announced the release of SparkyLinux 8.3, a distribution based on the stable branch of Debian.
This version is stable (not Rolling) and features new packages from the Debian repositories.

“SparkyLinux 8.3 is a new release based on Debian 13 trixie (13.4.0) linux kernel 6.12.86.
- – Packages updated from Debian and Sparky testing repositories as of March 14, 2026
- – Linux kernel 6.19.6 (7.0-rc3, 6.19.8, 6.18.18-LTS, 6.12.77-LTS in Sparky repositories)
- – GCC15 + GCC16-base installed
- – The CLI system installer “sparky-installer” now has an option to install the 32-bit version (ia32) of GRUB UEFI on 64-bit machines
- – The Calamares graphical installer now allows you to use a single-character password during installation (a strong password, minimum 8-12 characters, is recommended).
- Important: – Installing Sparky on UEFI computers requires an active internet connection. – Installation via Calamares is recommended on UEFI motherboard computers.
- – Installation on an older computer with a 64-bit processor and BIOS (or UEFI) is possible using the CLI installer: “sudo sparky-installer.”
