Η Stagefright is a critical Android vulnerability that attackers can exploit using special Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS).
What makes the vulnerability particularly annoying is that it can be passively exploited on devices. All that is needed is to send one malicious MMS on a device running Android and the hacker can gain access to the system with administrator privileges.
The hacker on entering the system can delete the MMS from your device before you open it. So you may never understand that someone else has taken control of your device.
So if you are not sure if your device has been affected by malware you can use a Stagefright detector. THE application there is in Google Play and you can download it free.
After installation, by clicking on the "Begin Analysis" button, the application will scan your device in a few seconds.
The results will appear on the same page, so you will know whether your device is vulnerable or not.
The application may also instruct you to upgrade your operating system for vulnerability protection.
Stagefighter Detector checks for vulnerability but does not take into account your message settings. This means you will come to the conclusion that your device is vulnerable to Stagefire vulnerability, even if you have disabled the automatic retrieval of MMS to it.
