The SpaceX company announced that yesterday Thursday, that the Starlink satellite network reached 4 million subscribers.
With an announcement in X the company SpaceX reported that it has acquired 4 million customers worldwide, with an upward trend, as the last million connected with it in the last five months.
Starlink started providing beta services of its product in October 2020. It reached 1 million subscribers in December 2022, 2 million subscribers in September 2023 and 3 million in May 2024.
It now includes nearly 6.000 satellites, with service available in nearly 100 countries, to both individual users and large corporate customers such as major airlines and cruise lines.
The service is on track financially to reach $6,6 billion in revenue this year, a bold increase from about $1,4 billion just two years ago.
Although there are other similar satellite network services, Starlink has become the undisputed giant of satellite internet.
Since the launch of the service, it has taken increased market share from legacy incumbents such as Viasat and SES, which operate large satellites in higher geostationary orbit.
There are several other companies in the works, most notably the Amazon's Project Kuiper, but they have not yet started their commercial service.
