10 Internet Gigabit what do you think; Last summer, the Finnish company telecommunications equipment manufacturer Nokia and Starman, the largest cable TV operator in the Baltic States, has announced that it will deploy Europe's first nationwide 10 Gigabit Ethernet passive optical network (EPON).
Just a few weeks before the agreement of 10G EPON became public, and Starman, which was bought by Finnish Telco Elisa for 151 million dollars in mid-December, said it was undergoing testing of the 10-gigabit network.
Starman's CTO Jaanus Erlemann said that the company's current situation does not need to be rushed because the goal is to work as best as possible to deliver a more credible solution in the long run.
"The existing network our DOCSIS3.0 is of very high quality and we are able to provide 500Mbps services throughout our presence. This gives us enough room for the conttreatment thorough testing of the new EPON technology, without the need to rush,”
He hopes that the higher network speeds will be available to customers in the near future that could also encourage content providers to improve production and broadcasting technology to provide full HD experience.
In the US, the "experiment" has already taken place in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The city has the world's first network of internet services at 10-gigabit speeds and has acknowledged that high-speed technology can create new jobs and millions in economic and social benefits.
Erlemann emphasizes that the availability of new fast internet technology is not an end in itself, but what really matters is the ultimate quality of service to customers.
So the company has set a goal to make the 10-gigabit network available to at least 50.000 customers in Estonia in the next five years. And because the new network is very reliable and relatively cheap to maintain, the company plans to create a model cooperations with the public sector, so that it can also be extended to remote rural areas.
