Steam On Linux at an all-time high in November

Η Steam research for November 2025 shows that Linux gaming has managed to reach its highest market share in a decade “thanks to the success of Steam Deck, the underlying Steam Play (Proton) software, and now thanks to the upcoming Steam Machine and Steam Frame,” says the Michael Larabel of Phoronix.

A decade ago, in the early days of Steam, initial usage was around 3%, and back then Steam's user base in absolute terms was much smaller than it is today. In October, Steam on Linux finally broke that 3% mark, after years of being stuck in a 1~2% rut. Now that the results of Steam's November survey have been released, we're seeing an upward trend for Linux.

Steam on Linux reached 3,2%, which is a 0,15% increase for the month. A year ago, Steam on Linux was at 2,03% last November, at 1,91% for November 2023, and a decade ago, in November 2015, it was just 0,98%.

Because of AMD APUs powering the Steam Deck, and AMD CPUs that continue to power nearly 70% of Linux gaming systems.

Meanwhile, on Windows, AMD holds about 42% of the CPU market.
