Steve Jobs, Apple co-founder and former CEO, posthumously awarded Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden, the White House announced on Friday.

The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest honor that can be given to USA to a civilian and is awarded to "individuals who have made exemplary contributions to the welfare, values, or security of the United States, world peace, or some other important community, public or private endeavor," the White House said in a statement.
Jobs founded Apple in April 1976 and since then it has become one of the largest companies in the world. It helped launch many technological products that became cultural touchstones, including the Mac, the iPod, and the iPhone. He died on October 5, 2011.
In its statement, the White House praised Jobs' creative approach to his various endeavors.
"Steve Jobs was the co-founder, CEO and chairman of Apple, Inc., CEO of Pixar, and had a leadership role in company Walt Disney," the White House said.
“His vision, imagination and creativity led to inventions that changed and continue to change the way the world communicates, as well as transforming the communications industry. computers, of music, cinema and wireless communication".
The award will be presented on July 7.
