This discovery could be a big risk for both consumers and businesses, due to the likelihood that user names and passwords open doors to online bank accounts, corporate networks, health records, and almost every kind of electronic system.
Alex Holden, the chief security officer data the company's Hold Security LLC, δsaid he believed the data was stolen in separate attacks, and that companies that have been cyber-attacked may not know they have fallen victim.
"We have personnel working around the clock trying to identify the victims," he said. Holden said he has not given it to authorities or other cyber security companies information about the attacks, but plans to notify businesses that have been victimized once its staff is able to identify the evidence.
