With big banners and slogans like “Stop Massive Spying" and "We People - Do not See The People"Thousands of people gathered in the US Capitol in Washington DC on Saturday to protest against the National Security Agency (NSA), whose activities have been uncovered since June.
In the planned protest called "Stop Watching Us"People have asked the US Congress to investigate NSA top-secret surveillance programs. Eventually, the protesters issued a petition signed by more than 575.000 people nationwide, calling for reforms, not laws that mislead the American people.
A statement was also read on behalf of Snowden, who reportedly lives in Russia.
"We are witnessing a great American moment in which ordinary people rose up to oppose a dangerous government trend."
The speakers of the demonstration include the Republican Justin Amash, former congressman and two-time presidential candidate, Dennis Kucinich, Jesselyn Radack and Gary Johnson.
