Images taken from cars since the start of the service have been compiled into a tool that shows how locations change over time.
The feature was only available in the PC version via Google Maps, but as of today it is also available on smartphones.
“Street View captures the world as it changes and is a great way to look back at the past,” said Ethan Russell, senior director of management productof Google Maps, in a blog post. blog.

Open the Google Maps app on your smartphone and enter Street View.
Click anywhere in the image to find information about the place.
Select “see more dates” and scroll through her pictures locations taken since 2007. City streets may feature more than a dozen dates, while remote locations have more limited options.
The new function was released to celebrate the 15th anniversary of Street View.
To celebrate, an upgraded mapping camera and the new Street View Studio, which provides tools for quick mass publishing of 360-degree image sequences.
The new adaptable camera weighs less than 15 kg and can be attached to any vehicle with a roof rack.
