The Chinese supercomputerς Sunway TaihuLight emerges as the world's fastest for the seventh year in a row.

It uses Chinese Shenwei processors and performs 93 petaflops, or four million counts per second, according to TOP500. It was designed for use in engineering and research, targeting the sectors: climate, weather, life sciences, advanced manufacturing and data analytics.
Sunway TaihuLight has a total of 10.649.600 CPU cores across the system. TaihuLight runs Sunway Raise OS 2.0.5 which is based on Linux. Electric consumption is around 15 MW.
China this year, apart from owning the No 1 position overcoming the US, appears for the first time as the country with most supercomputers in TOR-500. China had 167 supersystems and US 165. Japan comes third with 29 systems. Other countries that previously had Top 10 computers were Japan, Switzerland, Germany and Saudi Arabia.
