The Greek postal service provider ACS GNU, a member of the Quest Group, announced the launch of the research proletterτος αερομεταφοράς ΑCS SKYPACK με μικρά ιπτάμενα μη επανδρωμένα οχήματα, διερευνώντας τις προϋποθέσεις και τις τεχνολογίες οι οποίες θα επιτρέψουν την παράδοση φαρμάκων και άλλων ευαίσθητων αντικειμένων μεγάλης prioritys in hard-to-reach areas (mountains or small islands), in short times.
According to a relevant announcement, with the existing innovative technology, it is possible to deliver objects of a certain weight/volume (up to about two kilograms) at a distance of up to a few kilometers (with flights and stops for charging/ feeding aerial vehicles through special stations, by analogy with the movement of calls in mobile telephony), without requiring the existence of a ground station. This technology is in an evolutionary stage, is being improved and is expected to carry greater weight and greater distances in the future.
In the context of this program, the items to be transported will be placed in special packaging with signalACS SKYPACKs, which will then be transported via small flying unmanned aerial vehicles (drones type) to their final destination. It is noted that, for the use of the new technology, a special framework of technical safety specifications and licensing is required by the Greek Authorities within the EU, which is not yet available. The company closely monitors the developments in this sector, adapting its program to the evolving prospects.
