Symantec appears to be investing more in its Internet of Things lineup, having just released the Symantec Anomaly Detection for Automotive app in an effort to detect security anomalies in connected cars.
The security company with the Anomaly Detection for Automotive application is addressed to the automotive industry. It is a suite designed to analyze security threats and neutralize them.
With this move, the company shows that it believes that the Internet of things can be a significant growth market. Symantec also has built-ins tools security, code signing and managed public insurance keys to securing the Internet of Things.
The general idea behind the software is that the company will use machine learning to passively analyze a car's Controller Area Network.
The company's Anomaly Detection for Automotive software demonstrates learning the normal behavior of the car, so it can detect an attack if it notices that something is not normal.
The software will work with most brands and models, as the company said.
Symantec's software will be integrated into cars and will probably be sold by car makers. The application will be invisible to the driver and will use minimal memory and computational power.
According to Symantec, Anomaly Detection for the automotive industry is available from now.
