Sweden's Prime Minister, Ulf Kristersson, came under fire when he admitted that he often uses Artificial Intelligence tools like ChatGPT for second opinions on political issues.
The Guardian he says:
… Kristersson, whose moderate party leads Sweden’s center-right coalition government, said he uses tools like ChatGPT and the French service LeChat. His colleagues also use AI in their daily work, he said.
Kristersson told Swedish business newspaper Dagens Industri: “I use it quite often myself. If nothing else, just for a second opinion. What have others done? And I want to know if I should think the exact opposite? For these kinds of questions.”
Technology experts, however, have expressed concerns about politicians using AI tools in such a way, and the newspaper Aftonbladet accused Kristersson in an editorial of “falling victim to the oligarchs’ AI psychosis.” Kristersson’s spokesman, Tom Samuelsson, later said that the prime minister was not taking any risks in using AI. “Of course, it’s not sensitive security information that ends up there. It’s more used as a baseline.”
But Virginia Dignum, a professor of responsible artificial intelligence at Umea University, said that AI is not capable of giving meaningful opinions on political ideas and that it is simply reflects the opinions of those who created it.
"The more you rely on AI for simple things, the greater the risk of over-confidence in the system. It's a slippery slope," he told the newspaper Dagens Nyheter.
"We must demand that reliability be guaranteed. We did not vote for ChatGPT".
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
