Did you know that you can instantly ask any AI chatbot questions directly from the Chrome address bar and save valuable time? For example, type @plex to chat with Perplexity AI or @claude to talk to Claude AI.
Google Chrome's support shortcuts can help you quickly search the web from the address bar. This allows you to type a custom shortcut (e.g. @yt for YouTube) followed by your search term, and Chrome will immediately search that specific website for your query.
You can use the same technique to quickly send messages to your favorite AI chatbots. For example, typing @plex what do you know about iguru.gr? in the address bar will immediately open the Perplexity website with the question pre-filled, saving you the following steps:
Open new tab
Navigating the Perplexity AI website
Waiting to load
Typing your question
So let's see how you can save hours in the long run and make your browsing experience more efficient.
Create AI shortcuts in Google Chrome
Open the inside page chrome://settings/searchEngines in the address bar. Click the Add button and enter the shortcut name (e.g. @claude) followed by the URL of the AI chatbot. Click the Add button and you're done.
Here are some of the most popular AI chatbots and their website search URLs that you can use to create shortcuts in Google Chrome:
Perplexity AI https://www.perplexity.ai/search/new?q=%s
Claude AI https://claude.ai/new?q=%s
ChatGPT https://chatgpt.com/?model=auto&q=%s
Microsoft Copilot https://copilot.microsoft.com/?q=%s
Mistral AI https://chat.mistral.ai/chat?q=%s
If you prefer Google Gemini, Google Chrome supports it out of the box. Just type @gemini to chat with Google Gemini from the address bar.
Note: Some AI chatbots, like DeepSeek and Meta AI for example, do not currently support URL-based search, so shortcuts will not work.
Search shortcuts work with any website that supports search. So you can create shortcuts for your favorite search engines, Wikipedia, Google Maps, Google Translate, or even Gmail to quickly search your emails.
Although the press releases will range from very select to rare, I said I'd pass...because sometimes the editors hide.
