The Syrian Electronic Army hack activist group claims to have breached its systems United States Central Command (CENTCOM). The attack seems to be in response to the US intention to engage in an electronic war against Syria.
"Operation targeting CENTCOM are now in motion due to Obama's decision to attack Syria with electronic warfare"
"Operation CENTCOM was carried out because of Obama's decision to attack Syria's electronic systems," the hackers told Twitter.
So far, the hackers have published a screenshot showing that they have gained access to the servers of Army Knowledge Online (AKO). OR AKO provides information services to the Army and the Ministry Defense. It provides services from both a classified and an unclassified network.
The image posted by the hackers on Twitter shows that they have obtained data related to the activities of the Ministry of Defense, specifically from businesses of the Air Force.
Its representatives CENTCOM they told Tampa Tribune that the hackers' allegations are "false."
Bob Gourley, former director of the Defense Intelligence Service (DIA) and founder of Crucial Point LLC, told the Tampa Tribune that the files displayed in the screenshot posted by the hackers did not appear to contain any relevant information.
Gourley reported that if SEA's claims are true they seem to have access from a non-classified network rather than SIPRNet, the network used by the Ministry of Defense and the Foreign Office for the transmission of classified information.
However, the Syrian Electronic Army claims that the image it has released is just the beginning, and claims to have successfully penetrated "many of the central repositories" and said more evidence would be released in the coming days. Usually the hacking team is not lying, so they probably have access to some of the US Central servers. It remains to be seen how deep they have come.
