Arc Browser is over, Dia is here

2022, c Arc Browser It was billed as the “Chrome replacement” that people wanted. Three years later, The Browser Company discontinued development of the app because it wanted to create a new browser, Dia.

Josh Miller, CEO of The Browser Company, published a letter to Arc members explaining why the app is shutting down. Arc was created as a web-based computer designed for work, your personal life, and a full-fledged browser.

Miller says Arc failed due to an “innovation” problem, failing to retain users primarily because it was too different from a traditional browser.

Its interface was different and the entire workflow was unique. So users weren't willing to put in the effort to relearn how to navigate or even switch to another browser.

Miller mentioned two years ago that Arc had a learning curve that could put users off. Indeed, the browser's core features, such as Spaces, Live Folders, Calendar Preview, were rarely used.

Miller said his company has started working on Dia, a simpler browser. It will get rid of the bloat of Arc and use familiar interfaces. Dia, he said, will be lightweight, fast, and flexible, and will also incorporate artificial intelligence.

Miller claims that traditional browsers will cease to exist in favor of AI-powered features. He goes on to say that web pages consisting of applications, articles, files will become tools that can be accessed with AI chat interfaces that are essentially like browsers.

Dia “brpwser” will function as an AI agent that is also a web browser.
