As of today, July 1, 2026, the European Union will enter into force on new import duty of 3 euros per "item" for all low-value online purchases (up to 150 euros) from non-EU countries, directly affecting platforms such as Temu and its SheinThis measure definitively abolishes the old tax-free exemption for small parcels and aims to combat unfair competition.

How is the 3 euro charge calculated?
The most important pitfall is that the charge not imposed per package, but per different tariff category ("item") in the same basket
- Similar products: If you buy 5 identical T-shirts, they are considered one "item" and the charge is 3 euros total.
- Different products: If you buy a T-shirt, a pair of shoes and a bag, these are 3 different items. The charge will be 3 × 3 = 9 euros extra, even if they come in a common package.
What to watch out for
- When was the order placed: The duty is determined by the When is the parcel cleared through customs? and not when you pressed the buy button. If you ordered in June but the package arrives today or the next few days, it is subject to normal charge.
- Where is it paid: Most major platforms have already implemented the 3 euro charge directly at checkout (payment)If not prepaid, the duty will be requested upon delivery by the carrier.
- What applies to returns: In case of simple withdrawal (if you change your mind), the 3 euro duty is non-refundable. Returnable only if the product proves to be defective.
- VAT: The VAT regime (IOSS system) does not change and continues to be collected normally upon purchase.
