The official premiere of Tenet has caused a stir on pirate websites. There seems to be a lot of interest in the film and some are taking advantage of the fact. Thousands of people have been deceived by downloading fake copies of the film.
Worldwide, millions people have been waiting for the release of Christopher Nolan's sci-fi thriller 'Tenet.'
The film was scheduled to be released in July, but, after several delays due to the pandemic, Warner Bros. announced that the premiere will take place before the end of August.
This week, Tenet premiered in several countries, including Australia, the CanadaThe France, Germany, South Korea and the United Kingdom.
But those who decided to watch the movie at home and tried to download a torrent clicked on it. All the pirated websites are filled with fake copies of Tenet.
This is of course not a new phenomenon. Almost all popular movies have fake torrent copies for obvious reasons.
These fake releases can lead to all kinds of malware, viruses or even worse. There are also relatively harmless files but usually to upload a fake torrent is for personal gain.
Torrents include a file that is supposed to be the movie but cannot be played. But it also contains a readme file, which sends those who want to see the movie to sites that request credit card information "for verification purposes".
In general, these fake torrents are boosted by fake seeders. So while there seem to be thousands of "real" seeders, they are not humans.
