Microsoft announced the closure of Docs.com

Microsoft announced today that it plans to shut down Docs.com for a Sharing Service for Office documents at 15 December 2017.

Docs.com began as a partnership between Microsoft and Facebook in April 2010. It was built using Microsoft's Office Web Apps platform, and allowed Facebook users to create, edit, and share their documents. .Docs.com

Microsoft suspended Docs.com again in 2015, and relaunched it supporting more features such as for documents from OneDrive and basic annotation support.

This time, however, Microsoft seems to have decided it well and will eventually withdraw Docs on 15 December 2017. So those who use it should transfer their content to Docs.com to other file storage and file sharing platforms as soon as possible.

Those who use Docs will be able to log in from today June 9th until December 14th, 2017 to back up all their content on Docs.com to OneDrive. THE Docs.com will be set to read-only when the transfer is complete, and the document links will automatically redirect to OneDrive.

Microsoft said that those users do not have enough storage space on OneDrive should make sure to empty their drive.

The main reason for shutting down Docs is that Microsoft believes SlideShare is the best service for publishing Office documents.

In addition, Microsoft believes that OneDrive is the right service for distributing documents that are stored.

For custom sharing, OneDrive offers additional tools, rights and security settings to share and protect your data and content.

Let's also mention that there are many available alternatives not only for Microsoft but also for other companies like Google with Google Docs.
