One of the oldest and most popular Kodi addons stops working after a decade in action. Navi-X, which was the favorite add-on for hundreds of thousands of Kodi users, will stop working because of it changeof the law, spam and polluting its content with adult content.
One of the key questions Kodi's new Kodi media users are about what they need to install to get better content access and better quality experience.
Over the years, different add-ons such as Exodus, Phoenix, SALTS and SportsDevil have emerged and have achieved top positions in the huge list of add-ons.
Navi-X started life ten years ago in 2007. Developed by Dutch coder “Rodejo”, it debuted at XBMC (formerly code name Kodi) originally on XBoX.
“Navi-X initially played only video and audio and eventually expanded to many other media types such as text, RSS, streaming and podcasts, ”explains the TV Addons team.
Over the years, however, things changed dramatically. Due to the way Navi-X works, the addon can import playlists from any sources and of course from copyrighted content, from Movies and TV shows to live sports.
So the addon got too many friends, which were already hundreds of thousands.
"All good things come to an end. After ten years of success operation, Navi-X is unfortunately discontinued. Navi-X was first released in April 2007 and is the oldest Kodi addon of its kind,” explains TV Addons.
"There are a few reasons why we decided to close Navi-X, and hopefully the hundreds of thousands of people who still use Navi-X every day will understand that it is best to shut down while still on top."
The group says that the main reason for stopping the addon and the service in general is the current legal climate. Hosting playlists on Navi-X is something that TV add-ons no longer feel comfortable with "due to some potential criminal liability".
The team also says that Navi-X has been slowed down by people trying to make a profit from the service. Playlists fill with junk e-mail, often advertise unusual and illegal IPTV services, which other TV addons do not support and strongly oppose.
Adding adult content has also caused a number of issues, and despite TV Addons' efforts to get rid of the illegal content, the battle was lost.
"We tried to moderate the database, but there was too much content, no one had time to watch thousands of videos to remove ads and nasty content," the team explains.
Unlike other addons that have been put under legal pressure, Navi-X's closure is completely voluntary. TV Addons continues to grow thanks to developers rodejo16 and turner3d, as well as Blazetamer and crzen lately.
The repository also thanks those who spent time creating the playlists on which Navi-X was based.
"We would also like to thank all the exclusive playlists, and we invite you to contact us if you are interested in releasing their own addons sometime in the near future," concludes TV Addons.
