Her comedy Sony Pictures for North Korea with the title The Interview brought in revenues that exceeded one million dollars in projection of in a limited number of theaters on December 25, as announced today.
The film, with a budget of $44 million, was initially pulled after major movie theater chains decided to cancel its showing due to security concerns. It was finally screened in 320 small and medium theaters in USA, or in 10% of the theaters where it was originally planned to be shown.
Rory Brewer, Sony's president of distribution, expressed his "gratitude" to the audience in a statement. It is recalled that the company suffered an attack on its IT systems, for which the US government blamed North Korea and warned that there would be retaliation. The film, a farce, has theme the alleged assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
