An incredible incident that he himself, but more so his wife, experienced was reported by a citizen who described how the Heraklion Traffic Police issued a traffic violation to his wife for not wearing a helmet while she was driving a car!
The incident occurred on June 17th, with the traffic police officer stopping the driver, who was on her way to the school where she works at the time, and notifying her of the violation.
In her panic, she didn't understand the reason why the police officer wrote her a letter, and at noon, after she got off work, she went and paid the summons.
Later at home, she showed the summons to her husband, who found that the violation listed on the paper was for not wearing a helmet while she was driving a car.
As he claims, he addressed the service with a written objection, and from there he was initially informed that he would receive back the €350 he paid for the fine. However, as he describes, they then called him and told him that the amount of money could not be returned to their account because with the signature his wife put on the paper, it was as if she accepted the violation.
And if it's a spelling mistake and instead of not wearing a helmet, the police officer wanted to write not wearing a seatbelt, the listener described how his wife swears she was wearing one.
During his last visit to the police yesterday, they told him the same thing again, that nothing could be done.
The issue reached the leadership of the General Regional Police Directorate of Crete, which took the position that the fine and the summons "are invalid" and that this is, apparently, a human error and that the listener will receive the money back as long as he rushes to the commander of the Traffic Police Department, who will handle the procedure.
