Tiny Core Linux is a lightweight distribution with a graphical desktop in 16 MB. It is based on a recent Linux kernel, BusyBox, Tiny X, Fltk, and Flwm.
The kernel runs entirely in memory and thus starts up very quickly.
The user has full control over which applications and/or additional hardware it will support, whether it is a desktop, nettop, device or server.
The selection is possible from the project's electronic repository.
TinyCore becomes just an example of what the Core Project can produce, and a FLTK/FLWM desktop in 16MB.
It starts with a recent Linux kernel, vmlinuz, root filesystem, and startup scripts packaged into kernel modules in core.gz. Core (11MB) is just the kernel + core.gz. This is the foundation for desktops, servers, or user-built devices. TinyCore is Core + Xvesa.tcz + Xprogs.tcz + aterm.tcz + fltk-1.3.tcz + flwm.tcz + wbar.tcz.
CorePlus offers a simple way to learn to use the Core philosophy with built-in extensions that are community-packaged, allowing easy pendrive installation of the user's choice.

CorePlus is an installation image and not the distribution. It is recommended for new users who only have access to a wireless network or who use a non-US keyboard layout. It includes the base Core System and installation tools to provide for the setup with the following options: Choice of 7 Window Managers, Wireless support via many firmware files and ndiswrapper, non-US keyboard support, and a remastering tool. |
