From the first presentation of TrackingPoint στην CES του 2013, άλλαξαν πάρα πολλά στην Austin, την κατασκευάστρια company όπλων με Linux. Η εταιρεία τα αποκαλεί συλλογικά “Καθοδηγούμενα πυροβόλα όπλα Ακρίβειας”, ή στα English “Precision Guided Firearms,” or PGFs. But to give you an idea of what TrackingPoint guns can do, photojournalist Steven Michael hit a target at 1.008 meters on his first try, and he had never held a gun in his hands before. Computer technology in the hands of soldiers is nothing new. But this time it acquired new products.
The big heavy weapons presented by the company at CES 2013 appear to be just the beginning. Last month, journalists from Arstechnica visited Austin at Liberty Hill to see the new TrackingPoint, TP AR 556 and TP AR 762. Unlike the heavy-duty XS-series weapons series introduced at CES 2013, the new PGFs are very handy semi-automatic weapons.
Weapons have ARMs processors, λέιζερ, και υποστήριξη Wi-Fi. Η τιμή τους μέχρι στιγμής είναι αρκετά τσουχτερή, αλλά σίγουρα δεν έχουν περάσει απαρατήρητα από τις κυβερνήσεις.
Chief Executive Officer Jason Schauble said:
“We've sold out of everything” The build time on some of the XS PGFs has dropped to one to two weeks, but each gun contains a complex mix of components from various manufacturers. Linux runs on seven different processors, including a TI DaVinci SoC. AR semi-automatic weapons come from completely different suppliers than the ones we used until now and the result is they can juggle.
