The move is part of a broader effort by Poland to tighten regulation of online content. Recent measures include banning the use of mobile phones by children under 16 in schools and introducing stricter age verification rules for accessing pornography.

Under the new provisions, the transmission of crimes punishable by imprisonment for more than five years, including murder or rape, will be classified in itself as a separate offense punishable by imprisonment for up to five years.

The law also covers content that shows cruelty to animals, violence aimed at humiliating others and the promotion of gambling. The same penalties will apply to people who simulate or falsely depict the commission of such crimes while streaming, lawmakers said.
