Trend Micro increase in phishing attacks using Apple's name

Trend MicroΗ Trend Micro presented its threat report for the third quarter of 2013. The study reports on cybercrime, mobile threats, privacy and data, vulnerabilities, as well as targeted attacks.

The report reveals that the number of Internet infections with Trojan developed for the theft of bank accounts has increased significantly compared to the corresponding period of 2012. In total, over 200.000 infections of this type were observed Trojan during the 3 quarter 2013, compared to 132.000 that was recorded in the 3 quarter of 2012.

Variants of ZeuS were the most prevalent malware. The countries where the most cases were observed were the United States (23%), Brazil (16%), the (12%), η Ινδία (6%) και η (3%).

The most common malware was detected Worm_Downad.ad. However, it is worth noting that the number of infections decreased from 509.000 to 345.000.

As for the attacks , the campaigns that have seen an increase are mostly fake messages that appear to come from Apple. A huge spike in the volume of Apple phishing attacks was recorded in May, using its upcoming release iOS 7.

Most mobile threats seem to target the Android platform, but experts warn that cybercriminals are increasingly deploying to which can target multiple operating systems.
