Trump and Musk from the citizen's perspective

Get your popcorn ready. The brotherly relationship between tech mogul Elon Musk and US President Donald Trump has come to an ignominious end, as the billionaires clash on their respective social media platforms.

The interpersonal drama of attention-crazed public figures isn't usually a topic of interest to iGuru.gr, but these two certainly deserve some attention. In addition to needing them for Saturday's gleeful publication, the world's richest man and his digital companion threaten the future of the U.S. space program (and therefore U.S. national defense), the American electric vehicle market, and could even rise to the level of a national security nightmare.

The Trump-Elon divorce received a lot of publicity due to Donald Trump's extramarital affairs... and the subsequent accusations made by Elon during the divorce proceedings.

As in every jet-set divorce, there is a husband who, in order to get even more money, tearfully recounts how much he sacrificed to help the other's career ("Without me, you would have lost the election"). There are also the ungrateful haters, who dare to make painful rebukes like the one about admitting "election fraud."

But considering the personalities of both parties, the part about future, peaceful collaborations in some business activities seems entirely possible.

What do we observe?

The immaturity and instability of this relationship are the kind of things that make people stop voting (especially in the US) and start thinking that maybe China's system isn't such a bad idea after all.

Of course, immaturity is everywhere in politics today, and that’s no accident. We all want politicians who speak in a way that the public can understand. But everyday language is not the same as being childish. Referring to a major, highly controversial budget measure as a fast-food menu for kids (“Big Beautiful Breakfast!”) sends the message that not all of this is worthy of the attention of busy, responsible adults (we won’t name names, but watch Trump’s statements).

Whether Trump or Musk is right is less important than where they are fighting. Today's social media is designed to start and intensify contentious posts.

Those who believe that institutions should be a step or two above everything else should demand that politicians not bicker like children, but only publish like adults, that is, only with well-thought-out and documented official statements and only through official channels.

Elected officials and public servants should not “work” through social media (remind you of anything?).

This situation reminds us that all of us, from America to Greece to Ukraine, depend on a child who will shout “no, you can’t play with my spaceships or my satellites, they’re mine.” And every time he gets upset, satellites, reusable rockets, electrification of transportation and industry, all technologies absolutely critical to today’s society, will not be accessible.

Regarding Trump

“I don’t even think about Elon,” Trump told Cable News Network. “The poor guy has a problem.”

It's really sad that a character analysis would make Caligula look like a sober politician….
