A large number of high-profile Twitter accounts (Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Apple and others) were breached on Wednesday.
Gates, Musk and Apple's verified accounts posted tweets promoting a scam cryptocurrency, asking their followers to send money to a blockchain address in exchange for a larger payout.
The official account of former Vice President and US presidential candidate Joe Biden was also breached. The hackers also violated the official account of former US President Barack Obama.

Twitter reported on one official position:
“Γνωρίζουμε ένα περιστατικό security που επηρεάζει τους λογαριασμούς Twitter. Ερευνούμε και θα λάβουμε μέτρα για να το διορθώσουμε. Θα σας ενημερώσουμε όλους σύντομα”.
As part of its restoration efforts companys, verified accounts, used to promote the scam, have been banned and cannot tweet.
Most of the breached accounts have now been restored and the posts removed. However, the bitcoin address mentioned in most tweets raised more than $ 100.000 from hundreds of trades.
