Twitter finally relaxed its 140 character limit with a movement which probably should have been done years ago. The company announced in a tweet today the discount on the limit that will make many of its users happy.
So from today, although the limit of 140 characters will continue to exist, the characters of the links will not count, the photos, The videos, GIFs, polls, and quote tweets, which will give you extra valuable characters.
It's a move that Twitter should have done long before. Of course, there are those who are worried about the potential impact that such a move may have on the company, as the shortness of the tweets has greatly determined the nature of the social network.

The company had considered raising the limit up to 10.000 characters sometime according to Recode, but the idea was rejected. Meanwhile, Verge says the company is also testing other ways to give more space to the end user:
The company is also testing new answers that will omit the name of the person you are answering from the character limit. If you answer multiple people at once, Twitter will only skip the person who sent the original tweet from the character count.
Enlarged tweets are already in circulation, and if you can not use them yet, you will be able to at any time.
