Last Friday, microblogging platform Twitter laid off half of its employees after Elon Musk bought the company for $44 billion and fired the CEO, CFO and head of legal policy.
In a sudden reversal, however, the company is now asking dozens of its laid-off employees to return.
According to one publication of Bloomberg, some of those being asked to return were accidentally fired. They left before management realized that their work and experience could be essential to the company creation of the new features envisioned by Musk.
Casey Newton of Platformer News Agency he even mentions that a Twitter employee asked his colleagues to ask those who were fired if they would return.
As of today, Twitter has about 3.700 employees, according to people familiar with the matter. These people are being pressured by “Chief Twit” Elon Musk to move quickly to publicize new features, which has resulted in some employees sleeping in the office to meet deadlines. One of those features is the revamped Twitter Blue subscription, which will allow users to have a blue tick on their profile for $8, among other things.
Meanwhile, those who have been fired are fighting back by suing the company for not notifying them before they were fired.
Musk also revealed that Twitter has had a "massive drop" in revenue since he took over the platform. Although he did not say how much the platform had lost, companies such as General Motors, Audi, General Mills and IPG have already stopped advertising on the platform.
