Canonical today announced 13 April 2017, the final version of the Ubuntu 17.04 Zesty Zapus operating system, which has been in development for the past six months.
If you use Ubuntu 16.10 on your personal computer, you can upgrade to Ubuntu 17.04, which is powered by the latest stable version of Linux Kernel 4.10, with upgraded graphics using XNetwork XNext Upgraded Server and New 1.19.3 Media.
The default desktop environment remains Unity 7, because from the next large LTS version (18.04) the default environment will be Gnome.
Among the new features of the new version of Ubuntu 17.04, we can mention the use of swap files to be used instead of a swap partition only for new operating system installations. So, you will not see this change if you upgrade from an earlier version.
The gconf utility is not installed by default as it has been replaced by GSettings. The new version comes with the latest applications, and we can mention LibreOffice 5.3, Mozilla Firefox 52.0.1 and Thunderbird 45.8.0.
Until now, the following official flavors are released: Ubuntu GNOME 17.04, Ubuntu MATE 17.04, Kubuntu 17.04, Xubuntu 17.04, Lubuntu 17.04, Ubuntu Kylin 17.04, Ubuntu Studio 17.04 and Ubuntu Budgie 17.04, making its debut as an official flavor of Ubuntu with the Budgie desktop.
