Ubuntu 20.04 LTS new variant of the Yaru theme

The upcoming Ubuntu 20.04 LTS operating system will have a renewed default desktop theme which will have a new color combination as well as a third variant.

As the friends of the distribution know Yaru is the default theme Ubuntu since the release of Ubuntu 18.10 (Cosmic Cuttlefish) and has been receiving improvements and optimizations ever since.

With the release of Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa), the Yaru theme development team is working with Canonical teams to further improve the appearance of the default theme.

The main changes that users will notice after installing or upgrading to the upcoming Ubuntu 20.04 LTS version will be a third variation of the Yaru theme called Yaru Light along with the existing Yaru Dark and Standard versions. Of course all friends of the distribution will be able to switch between Yaru variants from the settings.

"With Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, we plan to go one step further. "Apart from the dark variant and the standard light version, there will be a third variant that will be lighter", says Martin Wimpress in a blog post.

In addition, the Yaru development team reported the creation of alternative folder icons that would help maintain Ubuntu's identity and provide users with better contrast in both Yaru Light and Yaru Dark variants.

They plan same to you add the ability to change the theme for shell elements such as notification bubbles and the top bar.

To ensure that most GNOME / GTK applications appear correctly on Ubuntu, a Flatpak will be released in the future to add the Yaru theme to other operating systems such as Arch Linux and Fedora.

As for the Ubuntu 20.04 LTS, we will probably be able to try the new theme in early April when the beta version will be released.

The final version of Ubuntu 20.04 will be released on April 23, 2020.
