ubuntu 2204 lts jammy jellyfish

Canonical named it Jammy jellyfish, and has been growing for the last six months. So today it was released as an upgrade of Ubuntu 21.10 (Impish Indri), as well as Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa).

Ubuntu 22.04 LTS comes with the latest GNOME 42 desktop environment but also with a triple buffering patch. The new version still applications from the GNOME 41 stack due to compatibility issues between the GTK4 applications included in the upstream release and the theme Yaru of Ubuntu. Applications not transferred to GTK4 come from the GNOME 42 stack, such as the Nautilus (Files) file manager.

The Ubuntu LTS 22.04 has consistently the same look and feel used since 2004 with the release of Ubuntu 11.04 "Natty Narwhal". However, there are some minor design changes, such as the Home and Trash icons now appearing in the lower-right corner by default.

There are also new settings to control the appearance and behavior of the Dock, a dark theme for the whole , all apps and dialogs, improved Dock device integration and file management, and 10 dark and light accent color options in the default Yaru theme, which now mimics the look and feel of GTK4 apps.

Another great feature of the new Ubuntu 22.04 LTS version is the long-term supported Linux 5.15 LTS kernel series, which brings a new application to the NTFS file system. This application will allow you to read and write data to NTFS disks without the need for third-party drivers or software. The Linux 5.15 LTS kernel will be supported at least until October 2023 with security updates and bug fixes.
